Michael King Roofing’s Trusted Roof Installation Process
At Michael King Roofing, we have new roof installations down to a science. For your convenience, our roof installation process is listed below. A typical roof installation will be completed in only one day. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.
Before work begins, the Michael King Roofing team will inspect your attic for any air conditioning or gas lines that may be touching the deck surface. Performing this inspection helps prevent lines from being punctured by nails during any roofing work.
Roof Installation Preparation
Before any construction begins, protective tarps will be strategically placed to protect your landscaping, driveway and more. Planters, yard ornaments and outdoor furniture is moved out of the work zone. We also cover any pools and hot tubs to prevent filter complications from debris.
Old Roof Demolition
During the demolition phase, your existing roofing will be removed down to the decking and disposed of by our team. The decking structure is then inspected for any rotten, damaged or unfastened areas. After homeowner approval, damaged decking areas will be removed and replaced. Then all flashing is examined and replaced if needed. Michael King Roofing’s standards exceed the industry standards to ensure the highest quality of workmanship.
New Roof Construction
Ice and Water Shield
Michael King Roofing takes an additional step to provide extra protection in areas with a higher risk of leaks. An ice and water shield (self-sealing and adhering product) is installed 12 to 18 inches around all roof penetrations, chimneys and in all valleys.
Roof Accessory Installation
Next, the roof is prepped and ready for roof accessories. Plumbing flashings, furnace caps and collars and exhaust vents are installed, sealed and painted to match your roof. Painting at this stage prevents over-spray and discoloration on the newly installed shingles.
Starter Shingle Installation
Specialty starter shingles are installed along the perimeter of the roof. This is very important because starter shingles include a properly positioned, high-quality adhesive that securely locks the exposed shingles to prevent blow off. Many companies use a standard shingle installed improperly as a starter shingle which can compromise the integrity of the roof and void manufacturer warranties. Michael King Roofing understands the importance of using the specially designed products in their proper place.
The first rows of shingles are installed starting at the eave. They are carefully placed on top of the specialty starter shingle with the appropriate amount of overhang. Spacing and staggering are measured to ensure proper install and aesthetic appeal. The process continues until all elevations of the roof are covered. Ridge cap shingles are then installed on the hips and ridges. All shingles are installed per manufacturers specifications. Michael King Roofing only uses nails when installing shingles. Many companies use inferior fasteners that may cause defective installs and possibly void the manufacturer warranty.
Proper attic ventilation is an important part of roofing. It extends the life of a roof and reduces the temperature differential between the attic temperature and the air outside by removing moisture and heat from the attic space. Trapped heat and moisture can raise energy costs. Michael King Roofing will install and adjust all ventilation for optimal performance.
Throughout Roof Installation
Michael King Roofing maintains a clean and presentable worksite which creates a safer work environment throughout the roofing process. Upon completion of the shingle installation a thorough cleaning is done:

✅Running magnet over the property to remove loose fasteners.
✅All yard ornaments, planters and furniture will be returned to their original location.
A Michael King Roofing project manager and crew lead will ensure quality control throughout the project. Both will be available to answer questions or concerns before, during and after construction.
The job is complete and the final walk-through inspection is performed to ensure property owner satisfaction. Any questions or concerns will be addressed.
